Redesigning a colour tool used by 90,000 designers

Kroma is a colour tool used by ninety thousand designers. Eighteen months of feature requests had left it with eleven panels and a palette nobody could read at a glance.

We ran research sessions with twenty users, drew the flows for the five things people actually do, and redesigned the canvas around one palette view. The component library ships in Kroma’s own codebase, so their engineers extend it without us. The App Store rating moved from 3.9 to 4.8 in the quarter after launch.
